Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)
On This Page
Singapore’s F&B, MICE and Lifestyle industries are filled with individuals who have built deep expertise through extensive on-the-job experience, often without formal academic qualifications.
We recognise this invaluable journey.
This is why Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a key part of our admissions philosophy. It is a formal process that validates the knowledge, skills and competencies you have gained through work, volunteering or other life experiences against the requirements of our academic programmes.
What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?
RPL acknowledges that learning takes many forms. It’s an inclusive approach that:
Identifies: Your existing knowledge, skills, and competencies.
Assesses: How these align with the learning outcomes and requirements of our specific modules or programs.
Grants: Credit transfers (reducing the need to study modules where you already demonstrate competence) or entry into 1-Academia’s programmes.
If you have substantial work experience (typically 3-5+ years in a relevant industry supervisory role, depending on the program level) and have acquired knowledge and skills directly applicable to our program learning outcomes, RPL could be your pathway to an advanced qualification.
How 1-Academia Utilises RPL for Your Advancement: The 1-Academia Difference
RPL addresses the career progression barriers often faced by experienced professionals in Singapore’s F&B and experience industries.
Inclusive Entry Requirements
We recognise that a traditional degree is not the only measure of potential. RPL enables individuals who do not meet standard academic entry criteria, but possess substantial industry experience and leadership capability, to gain access to our Graduate Diploma and MBA programmes.
Accelerated Learning Through Credit Transfers
If you already hold skills and knowledge that align with our modules, RPL can provide exemptions so you do not repeat learning you have already mastered.
Valuing Diverse Backgrounds
We believe the strongest learning environments are diverse. RPL ensures that professionals from all backgrounds, whether you began as a junior chef, server, event coordinator or retail assistant, can use their career journey to gain formal academic recognition.
